Milwaukee, WI — The African American Leadership Alliance Milwaukee (AALAM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Behling to its Board of Directors. His addition strengthens the organization’s leadership and deepens its cross-sector engagement with leaders committed to advancing inclusive leadership across the region.
Behling serves as Head of Insurance Sales at Northwestern Mutual, where he oversees life, disability, annuity, and long-term care sales at the nation’s leading life insurance company. A member of the company’s Executive Leadership Group, Behling brings extensive experience in executive leadership, insurance and financial services, organizational strategy, and workforce engagement.
In addition to his corporate leadership role, Behling serves as executive sponsor of Northwestern Mutual’s African American Employee Resource Group and the Belongingness and Inclusion Committee for the company’s 3,000-person insurance function—demonstrating a long-standing commitment to advancing leadership development and fostering inclusive organizational cultures.
Before joining Northwestern Mutual in 2021, Behling held senior leadership roles across the insurance and healthcare sectors, including executive positions at Swiss Re, Equitable, and healthcare services firms where he led large national operations and strategic growth initiatives. His career also includes entrepreneurial leadership, having co-founded and successfully sold a national life insurance brokerage.
AALAM leadership believes Behling’s experience across corporate leadership, talent development, and national business strategy will contribute meaningfully to the organization’s mission of strengthening leadership capacity across the Milwaukee region.
“Chris brings a thoughtful and values-driven leadership perspective that aligns deeply with AALAM’s mission,” said Angela Adams, President & CEO of AALAM. “His commitment to leadership development, organizational excellence, and fostering an inclusive culture will strengthen our work to cultivate leaders who are equipped to drive impact across organizations and communities throughout southeastern Wisconsin.”
AALAM continues to expand its board to reflect the cross-sector leadership needed to advance its mission of building a strong and connected leadership ecosystem across the Milwaukee region. Through its signature African American Leadership Program (AALP) and growing alumni initiatives, AALAM equips leaders with the skills, networks, and insights needed to strengthen organizations and drive community impact.
