ADVANCING LEADERS, ACCELERATING CHANGE

OUR APPROACH
AALAM’s actions strive to achieve these three key changes:
-
To redefine Milwaukee as a top-ranking
city for African Americans by 2025
-
To ensure that African American leaders choose to live, work and play in Milwaukee
-
To enhance a thriving and growing pool of diverse
and talented African American leaders who contribute
to positive change in Milwaukee
AALAM’s members are organized into “Action Circles”
which allows them to leverage their spheres of influence
to promote and sustain system-wide change. Below are
the focus areas of engagement, which address specific
goals and impact measures.
• Talent Development
• Sustainability
• Young Adult Leaders
• Communications
• Policy & Practice

BACKGROUND
AALAM (African American Leadership Alliance Milwaukee) founded
in May 2017, is a cross-sector network of African American leaders
and allies dedicated to developing, supporting and positioning Milwaukee's pool of African American talent.
The inception of AALAM is the result of over 80 African American leaders and supportive allies participating in a three-day SAS (Strategic Actioning Session) training to identify solutions that will help address racial disparities and improve the vitality of African Americans in the city.
AALAM uses a system-wide approach to improve racial equity in Milwaukee through intentional actions that expand, support and
sustain African American leadership in all economic sectors and
at all levels of our community. AALAM is a nonprofit led by a Catalyst Circle/Board of Directors.

AALAM'S HUB CHANGEMAKER ROLES:
● Convener among African American leaders, providing professional expertise, resources and support on leadership-related topics
● Broker for leveraging funding, access to national resources and fundraising to create opportunities for large scale change
● Influencer of peer organizations, public policy and system-wide change addressing the most critical issues impacting African Americans
● Connector of cross-sector leaders and allies, creating a dynamic coalition sharing a common goal
OUR BELIEF
Together under a shared vision and commitment, we will positively impact the trajectory of Milwaukee. We will infuse hope by developing and supporting a thriving pool of diverse and talented African American leaders.
OUR VISION
Milwaukee is a global destination where all African Americans thrive and prosper
